What is a psychotherapist?
A psychotherapist is a trained professional who provides mental health support through various therapeutic techniques and approaches. Their primary role is to assist individuals in exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and confidential environment. Psychotherapists may work with clients facing a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, and life transitions.
Therapeutic interventions can take many forms, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and others, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. A strong therapeutic alliance between the psychotherapist and the client is crucial for effective treatment. This relationship fosters trust and openness, allowing clients to engage more fully in the therapeutic process.
Through the therapeutic process, psychotherapists aim to empower individuals to develop coping strategies, gain insight into their experiences, and facilitate personal growth.
EXPERIENCE
Over the past fifteen years, I have worked with children, teens, and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, attachment issues, PTSD, adjustment disorders, emotional dysregulation, and behavioral issues. I have worked with the refugee population and provided assistance with PTSD and acculturative challenges. As well as adults and children who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. I also have extensive experience with attachment and behavioral challenges.
My approach is attachment and cognitive behavioral in theory. Both of these theories are evidence-based and strongly supported by research. I utilize client-centered, and solution-focused models and implement play therapy and sand tray techniques when appropriate, as well as mindfulness skills. I also highly value a holistic mind-body-spirit approach.
I offer a 20 minute consultation at no charge as an opportunity for potential clients to meet with me and ask any questions they may have concerning the therapeutic process
